Caring for the Lawn Year Round

If you want your lawn to look great, it is important you take action to care for it throughout the year. Most homeowners have a year-round action plan for their laws. This includes plenty of attention and car that lasts throughout the year. What does this plan consist of? Here is a step-by-step action plan that will help you get your law in tip-top shape throughout the year.

  1. Take care of your soil. Soil that maintains good pH is going to raise green grass. You can test your soil to determine whether it is acidic or alkaline. Go to the nursery and get a soil testing kit, which is very inexpensive and find out how well your soil is, and if your soil needs nutrients, which you can deliver inexpensively.
  2. Jump start your lawn in the spring. In the spring, after heavy snows, most lawns require a little aeration. You can follow up with a good trip and a mowing. This will allow your lawn to thaw from the ice and snow, and prepare for the sun to shine.
  3. Fertilize your lawn. A little fertilizer in the spring can go a long way toward promoting good growth for the rest of the year. Sometimes people give their lawn too much fertilizer which can encourage other growth, including week growth. So add just a little bit.
  4. Water your lawn religiously. You should keep your lawn watered during the hot months, as the temperature increases. Do not overdo it. If it is raining out, do not turn the sprinklers on. This is overkill.
  5. Mow your grass regularly. Typically keeping your lawn mowed is like cutting your hair. Cut it when you feel like it is getting just a bit too long.
  6. In the fall, rake up leaves and bag them. Allow your lawn to continue to breathe as you would in the spring.
