A House Foundation

The foundation is the lower layer of a structure, such as a house. A foundation is also the supporting layer of a structure. The house's foundation helps shoulder the structure's considerable weight. It also provides a flat/leveled base for the structure and provides the division the house needs from the ground. Now, depending on the house's location and the time it was built, the house's foundation may be made of stone, brick, lumber, concrete block, or poured concrete. Building a solid foundation is crucial to a house's integrity, as it takes all the loads from the roof to the walls to the floors and transfers them to the soil.

Today, there are three main types of foundations used: the basement foundation, the crawl space foundation, and the slab foundation. Let's analyze a little bit more about each of these three foundations:

1)

Basement foundation: This foundation has a slab on grade with full height footing walls. In essence  it is a deep crawl space that can be used as a living space. A basement foundation is also waterproofed.

2) Craw Space Foundation: This foundation is also known as a raised foundation. It is built just above the ground, allowing for just enough room to crawl. The crawl space allows enough space to take care of the mechanical systems of the house.

3) Slab: This foundation consists of concrete that is poured directly on the ground. A slab foundation can help to reduce costs and it is common where soil conditions prevent the building team from putting a basement.
